Feed Back on My March Entry: The dry run of this Lit Strategy went really well.. I realized quickly that the time frame did not work. So, I just made it a race for all categories. With the caveat that BEST work was rewarded.
Excited for how much it met my goals of students engaged in the process of learning , understanding new vocabulary.
MARCH SPECIAL >>> I wanted to inspire my Skateboard class so they would learn the vocabulary that is used in context in the Skateboard community. To do this I wanted them to be able to express in words and pictures their understanding of the common words used in Skateboarding. The game DELUXE WORD WALL RELAY PICTIONARY is a result of what I want them to do to learn and use a variety of words. Students will be asked to form teams with no more than 3 per team. The first round of this game will be focused on three words. Teams will get a word and have 2 minutes to find the "Best" picture and short caption or definition of the word.
Students will have laptops, printers and desk tops available to them in the library. Poster paper and tape and scissors will also be needed.
The second round is the RELAY phase. Each team starts with same word. The first team to return to teacher gets the second word.. only 5 words will be available during this round. Possible for one team to get more words than others... the hitch is if they rush and thier picture or definition is incorrect they will be penalized. Best picture and definition will gain bonus points.
Third round is the creative round that allows teams to search for and choose 1 SK8 word and add a picture and definition.
This activity is better than just supplying them with a word wall to read it requires using many higher level of BLOOMS TAXONOMY.
AND ITS WICKED FUN.
